New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye received a three-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, the team announced Wednesday.

The Saints didn't provide any other details about Maye's violation.

New Orleans signed Maye to a three-year, $22.5-million contract before the 2022 campaign. The 30-year-old racked up 60 total tackles, a forced fumble, and a pair of pass deflections in 10 games last year.

New Orleans' defense has effectively limited opponents to start the 2023 season. The team ranks fourth in yards allowed per game (262) and is tied for fifth in points yielded per contest (16). The Saints have also tallied four takeaways - tied for fifth in the NFL.

Tyrann Mathieu will continue to anchor one safety spot, leaving a combination of Ugo Amadi, J.T. Gray, and Jordan Howden to fill the other. Lonnie Johnson, listed at cornerback on the team's roster, has also previously played the safety position.

Maye has 13 total tackles, one interception, and one sack through two games this year.
