Tying to reboot my linux journey
by uberprutser from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6FCX8)
I've used linux before, and would say it's been a mixed bag of experiences and frustration for me.
That was more then a decate ago.But I got this old Toshiba Satellite L40 laptop laying around, and it would be fun to try and see I can make it into something that can be used to browse today's w.w.w.
It's only 32bit, but has an S.S.D. and 2 GB of ram. The processor is a Pentium Dual Core and it was running Windows Vista originally. Not really the best hardware, but I expect it should be able to run a modern day browser.
I did try-out the Google Chromebook software, and it ran reasonably quick. (running from USB) But everything Google gives me a bad taste in the mouth!
So I'm looking for something f.o.s.s. that will run decent on this old girl.
Not every bit of software needs to be opensource. I prefer usability over opensourceness.
I like my menu button in the lower left, and no panel on the top of the screen.
And I prefer using the Brave Browser. But Opera, Vivaldi or Firefox are also fine with me.
The browser should join the sync chain on my Windows desktop and laptop for convenience :)
I prefer ease of use above customizability. Things should just work and stay working for a long time. I used to like the l.t.s. versions of Mint.
What distro should I try out?
