Eagles' Carter, Slay out vs. Jets; neither dealing with long-term injuries

Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter and cornerback Darius Slay will miss Sunday's game against the New York Jets.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said Friday that Carter suffered an ankle injury in Wednesday's practice, according to Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice. Sirianni added that he doesn't expect the injury will "keep him out very long."

Meanwhile, Slay is dealing with a knee injury and missed practice all week. Sirianni said Slay's ailment isn't a long-term issue.

The Eagles' defense will also be without safety Justin Evans due to a knee injury, while receiver Quez Watkins will be sidelined with a hamstring issue.

Carter, the ninth overall pick in this year's draft, is one of the early favorites for Defensive Rookie of the Year after a standout beginning to his NFL career.

The 22-year-old has 3.5 sacks, four tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles in five appearances. He's also PFF's top-ranked defensive tackle.
