Report: Richardson mulling season-ending shoulder surgery

Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson is "strongly considering" season-ending shoulder surgery on his injured AC joint, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The Colts and Richardson received a handful of opinions, with some determining that surgery is the best way to heal his shoulder injury, Rapoport adds.

Richardson suffered the injury while being tackled on a designed quarterback run in the second quarter of last Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans.

The 21-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 3 AC joint sprain, though an MRI did not reveal a torn labrum, Rapoport reports.

Indianapolis put Richardson on injured reserve earlier this week, knocking him out for a minimum of four games. Earlier reports stated that the 2023 No. 4 overall pick could be sidelined anywhere from four-to-eight weeks if he didn't require surgery.

Richardson was off to a hot start as a dual-threat option, throwing three touchdowns through the air and scoring four more on the ground. He was also 2-2 as a starter for a Colts club that is currently 3-2 on the season.

Gardner Minshew is set to start under center with Richardson out. Minshew started one game earlier this season while Richardson was out with a concussion.
