Funniest/Most Insightful Comments Of The Week At Techdirt

This week, our first place winner on the insightful side is an anonymous comment about disinformation and censorship on ExTwitter:

Anyone remember Musk happily censoring content for Modi instead of challenging the censorship order as Dorsi would have? His justification was that he believes in free speech up to, but not beyond, the law (and didn't seem to consider that a censorship request itself could be beyond the law). Now let's see Musk stay true to his principles and censor content for the EU without a question...

In second place, it's an anonymous response to a complaint about our coverage of Musk:

Why do you feel the actions of the chief technology officer of a $44 billion dollar tech company aren't newsworthy?

You've called it a hit piece....are there factual errors? Or do you think opinion based off disclosed public reporting constitutes a hit piece'?

For editor's choice on the insightful side, we've got a pair of comments from our post about the AEI and Heritage Foundation defending book bans. First, it's Anon with an observation:

This is doubly absurd given that both AEI and Heritage actually are publishers in their own right. What would they say if Democrats suddenly decided that all think tank-published books should be removed from schools as libertarian ideas are deemed too subversive for democracy? Conservatives have lost the plot.

Next, it's blakestacey with some thoughts on one of the books in question:

I actually have an autographed copy of Gender Queer, by happenstance: Maia Kobabe was selling them at the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo last year, and I attended on a lark. The people who call it obscene" or pornographic" are really telling on themselves: It's a memoir by a person who just doesn't like sex all that much. There's a page where two characters in a monogamous, affectionate relationship indulge in some mostly-clothed fooling around before deciding that the activity was hotter in the imagination than the actuality. Daniel Craig stepping out of the water in Casino Royale was more steamy and showed more skin.

Over on the funny side, our first place winner is Cliff Jerrison with a comment about Linda Yaccarino's claims that advertising is going fine on ExTwitter:

But on the plus side, it's never been easier to find testosterone supplements, crypto scams, custody lawyers, and rightwing YouTube channels!

Twitter's remaining advertisers really do paint a picture of who still uses the site.

In second place, it's Mononymous Tim with a reply to a reply to that comment, which had pointed out the proliferation of bots:

But.. but.. Elon cleaned up the bots!

For editor's choice on the funny side, we start out with one more comment from that post, this time from another anonymous commenter:

Visa spending $10 on Twitter ads is a good enough punchline to end the joke that Twitter is now.

Finally, we've got a comment from Stephen T. Stone about our post about Laura Loomer and its assertion about what she's best known for:

On the contrary: I remember her for the performative (and ultimately futile) protest of her Twitter ban where she handcuffed herself to a single door at Twitter's New York headquarters and did nothing but whine about being banned while Twitter employees went about their business.

That's all for this week, folks!
