What RAID config for new homelab server

Hi all,

I have a Dell T340 server with the following config

• 2 x 250gb samsung evo 870 ssd's <-- attached to Dell S130 onboard controller
• 8 x 10tb HDD's <-- attached to Dell Perc H730

I have used debian before so would like to use that again.

My question is, what is the best way of installing the OS on the samsungs. Enable hardware raid or software raid. From what Ive read a software raid using mdadm is recommended.

I suppose if software raid is better, are both drives bootable? if the primary fails for example?
