San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has entered the league's concussion protocol, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Wednesday.

Purdy started feeling concussion symptoms on the plane ride home from Minnesota, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic. It is unclear when he suffered the concussion.

Shanahan said Purdy will participate in some of the team's walkthrough on Wednesday, but backup quarterback Sam Darnold will get the majority of the first-team reps, according to Matt Burrows of The Athletic. The 49ers face off against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Purdy completed 21 passes for 272 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in Week 7 against the Vikings. Both interceptions came in the fourth quarter, including one on the team's final drive that iced the game for Minnesota.

Darnold beat out Trey Lance for the backup job this offseason after signing a one-year, $4.5-million deal in March.

The 26-year-old Darnold is 21-34 in 55 career starts. He has 11,768 passing yards with 61 touchdowns and 55 interceptions since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2018.
