Jets' Cook frustrated by lack of carries: 'I want to play'

Running back Dalvin Cook isn't happy with his limited role in the New York Jets' offense through six games.

"I want to play. ... I want the situation to be best for both sides," Cook said Thursday, according to Connor Hughes of SNY.

"Of course it's frustrating," Cook added, per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic. "It's new for me. I come from getting the ball 20 times a game. It's something I'm adapting to."

The 28-year-old signed a one-year, $7-million deal with the Jets in August that included $5.8 million guaranteed, according to Over The Cap. The Minnesota Vikings signed him to a five-year, $63-million extension in 2020 but released him in June this year.

Cook said he didn't ask the Jets to trade him ahead of the Oct. 31 deadline, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post, but New York has reportedly made him available, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

The running back has failed to eclipse 34 yards rushing in a single game this campaign. After garnering 13 carries in Week 1, the Florida State product has yet to receive more than eight carries in a single contest. Cook has 39 rush attempts for 109 yards through six games, good for 2.79 yards per carry.

The 2017 second-round pick said his yards per rush are down due to his lack of carries, per Rosenblatt. He added that it's hard for him to get going when he's only getting a few attempts per game.

The Jets face the New York Giants in Week 8.
