[SOLVED] startx fails with xauth .serverauth.nnnn does not exist
by Z038 from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6FX3H)
I boot to runlevel 3, then normally issue "exec startx" to start kde. After upgrading to 6.1.59 kernel and most recent slackware/current this morning, startx always fails with the error:
xauth: file /home/s/.serverauth.nnnn does not exist
The ".nnnn" part of the file name changes every time. I get the error for my normal user and for root.
I suspect this is something of a red herring, as that file is created by X.
I did have a crash while doing the upgrade and had to start it over. So something might have gotten honked up.
The Xorg log in /var/log doesn't show any errors at all.
Any ideas what I can check?
I know there are other ways to start kde and/or other desktop environments, but I don't recall how.
