US European command says cause of crash remained under investigation, but there was no indications of hostile activity'
Five US military special operations troops were killed in a refueling accident during training that caused an aircraft carrying them to crash into the Mediterranean Sea, the American defense department said in a statement on Sunday.
US European Command said search and rescue operations were launched immediately following the crash and an investigation into its cause is under way. The troops aboard the helicopter were US army special operations personnel, according to two US officials speaking on the condition of anonymity.
