McCaffrey's TD streak ends in win over Jags, falls short of NFL record
Despite four different San Francisco 49ers players scoring scrimmage touchdowns in the team's 34-3 rout of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Christian McCaffrey couldn't find the end zone for the first time in 18 games.
McCaffrey scored a touchdown in 17 straight contests prior to Sunday's game, tying him with former Baltimore Colts running back Lenny Moore, who initially set the record from 1963-64.
The 49ers attempted to get McCaffrey the football on the final five plays of their second-last drive of the game, including four plays from the red zone, for him to surpass the milestone. Despite three rushes and one target on the last four plays, McCaffrey couldn't get the record-breaking score.
#49ers RB Christian McCaffrey with the jokes on the end of his TD streak:
- Nick Wagoner (@nwagoner) November 12, 2023
"I suck. Everyone else on the team scored. Except me. No, it means a lot to me for them to keep me in at the end of the game there and try to give me that record, but hey, I'll take a huge win."
McCaffrey was the only key piece of the 49ers' offense to not register a touchdown in their blowout victory. Deebo Samuel rushed for a touchdown, while Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, and Kyle Juszczyk caught touchdowns.
San Francisco snapped a three-game losing streak with the win over the Jaguars to move to 6-3.
