Trying to understand Ram memory and Swap memory

Ubuntu 22.x lts

No matter how many apps/programs I run, when I check "System Monitory" it never uses much more than 5.6 GB of my available 8.2 GB of Ram. However, it is using Swap memory, which I think tells me it is using the HD or SSD memory as by definition a computer uses Swap memory when not enough physical Ram is available - but I've never seen the physical ram max out (all 8.2 GB of it) as I check System Monitor frequently.

If I added another 8 GB of Ram, would it decrease the amount of Swap memory it's using and make things run even smoother?

See attached screenshot. I can't understand why Swap memory is being used when the physical 8.2 GB of Ram isn't being taken up/used.
