Panthers' Reich taking back play-calling duties from OC Brown

Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich said Wednesday that he's taking back play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Thomas Brown for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys, according to team reporter Darin Gantt.

Reich added that he hasn't been given an ultimatum from Panthers ownership. He cited his experience and desire to improve the offense for the change but said it'll remain a collaborative process.

"If I have something to give the team, I want to give it," he said.

Reich began his first season in Carolina as the offensive play-caller but ceded the duties to Brown in mid-October.

The head coach said it was always his plan for Brown to take over and the move wasn't related to the offense's struggles during an 0-6 start.

The Panthers continue to be among the NFL's worst offenses while sitting at 1-7, ranking 29th in points per game (17) and 30th in total yards per game (275.6).

Meanwhile, No. 1 pick Bryce Young has fallen short of expectations. The rookie quarterback has thrown for just 1,560 yards and eight touchdowns against seven interceptions while taking 29 sacks (tied for fifth-most).
