Howell: Commanders 'haven't won enough games' to care about individual stats

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell leads the league in passing yards, but the young gunslinger is focused on improving the club's record.

"I look more into what we're doing as a team and just how I can improve for this football team and how I can put this football team in better chances to win football games," Howell said, according to team reporter Zach Selby.

The 23-year-old added: "Obviously, we haven't won enough games. We haven't won the games that I feel like we should have won this season."

Howell shredded defenses in his last three games, racking up 1,034 passing yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions with a 102.4 passer rating. His 312 passing yards against the Seattle Seahawks made Howell the eighth player in NFL history to record four games with 300-plus passing yards in their first 11 career contests.

Washington's offense is 17th in points per game after failing to rank in the top 20 in points per game since 2017. The Commanders' defense has been an issue, however, sitting 29th in yards per game allowed.

"I think we've played all right the past few weeks, (but it) doesn't mean we're going to play all right this week," Howell said.

"So, we got to take it one week at a time, one day at a time, and make sure we approach it the right way to give ourselves a chance to try to play well on Sunday and give us a chance to win."

Howell has 2,783 passing yards with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions through 10 games this season. The 4-6 Commanders take on the 2-8 New York Giants in Week 11.
