The NFL is investigating why the Cincinnati Bengals didn't list Joe Burrow on their injury report when the team posted a photo of the quarterback wearing a device on his wrist Wednesday night, the league confirmed Friday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Bengals posted a picture of Burrow wearing a device that appeared to be a soft cast on his thumb. The post was later deleted, Schefter reports.

Burrow wasn't listed on the team's Week 11 injury report prior to Thursday's matchup.

Burrow said that he was wearing a compression sleeve on his wrist during the team's flight to Baltimore and that it had "nothing to do" with the torn ligament, per ESPN's Ben Baby.

Head coach Zac Taylor said he was unaware of a wrist ailment prior to kickoff.

Taylor later said that the wrist wrap Burrow was wearing on the plane was completely unrelated to his season-ending injury, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports.

Burrow will miss the remainder of the season after tearing a ligament in his wrist that will require season-ending surgery, Taylor told reporters Friday.

Burrow exited the Bengals' 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football after throwing a touchdown to Joe Mixon in the second quarter. Following a visit to the medical tent, he attempted to throw on the sideline and jogged back to the locker room. He watched the rest of the game from the sideline.

The 2022 Pro Bowler completed 11 of 17 passes for 101 yards and one TD before his exit. Jake Browning replaced Burrow for the remainder of the game, passing for 68 yards and one score.

The league routinely looks into matters of compliance with injury report policy. Teams can face punishments that include fines and potentially lose a draft pick.
