ntfs works and then doesn't work

I have formatted a thumb drive with NTFS using gnome-disk-utility. Then I copied some files and was able to read them on the thumb drive.
Then I removed the drive and plugged it again. Suddenly this drive wouldn't mount on debian 12.
I know that there is an issue with the ntfs3 package not being available on debian but why did it work at all at the beginning and stopped afterwards?
