mouse freezes after sleep/xscreensaver lock/lid close/open

So....steps to reproduce:

xscreensaver -lock
close lid (I assume it sleeps at this point, not really sure never set it that way or I don't remember setting it up)
open lid
mouse is irresponsive

I can log in and navigate with the keyboard. The mouse cursor is there, but neither the red dot thinkpad button nor the trackpad will move the mouse cursor.

I'm using artix linux on a thinkpad T440s.

Not really sure where to start debugging this. I look at dmesg, but I don't see anything but this:

Code:[ 14.028344] elogind[1870]: Watching system buttons on /dev/input/event3 (AT Translated Set 2 keyboard)There was a line after that saying something broke, but I don't remember what it was. I can't copy/paste it without a mouse.

I don't see anything resembling a trackpad, mouse, or red dot in lsusb or lspci.
