scan 100 DVDs to locate / retrieve pictures there?
by Herve5 from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6H188)
Hello,
I'm trying to manage a large set of archival DVDs containing, among useless things, thousands of photos, most of them with proper titles and good EXIF tags.
I would like to build a local database that'd retrieve a given picture from a couple of keywords and a date range, pointing to the relevant DVD or DVD box, possibly showing a reduced pic.
Practically I'd also appreciate automating the initial scan process, e. g. with the CD reader ejecting a disc after scan and waitng for the next to continue automatically.
(I remember there were such softwares on macintosh a dozen years ago for professional graphists and photographers, in the dark ages before everyone migrated to the Kloud ;-)
I didn't probably find the right keywords, but even after long searches I fnd myself buried into the classical single-disk photo managers, plus dozens of brilliant things discontinued for 10 years, and barely three generic managers that seem to 'do the job' but without even mentioning photos : Katalog, "Virtual Volumes View" and Tellico.
Before starting a frantic comparative installation, would you have any advice or alternatives?
TIA!!
Herve
