ASIC design software anyone?

There's freely available software for working with fpgas. But ASICS (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) are a whole level deeper. Is there any available software for the task?
This stuff is used for every SoC, so I'm sure something does the work. I won't be paying any hefty price tag, just personal interest.
