Culling aims to reduce population in fragile ecosystems from about 22,500 to 3,000 by mid-2027

A trial of aerial culling of feral horses in Kosciuszko national park has been defended as humane despite some horses requiring more than a dozen shots to kill them.

The New South Wales government last month conducted the trial - opposed by brumby activists - that killed 270 feral horses. Authorities say the horses damage endangered species and ecosystems in the park.
