Boot USB From Imac

2011 iMac. Dual booted, OSX and Linuxmint. iMac will boot DVD but not from USB device.
I want to boot a USB drive that has Linux installed on it to experiment with. iMac's 27" screen better suited than my laptops screen which will boot USB drive.
Is there DVD that I can use to boot the USB drive?
