Failed installing nVidia driver, nouveu disabled, no X

I changed my graphics card the other day. I ran the older one with nouveu. It did work, but I figured a nicer card with up to date driver, would suit me better.

lspci says it is a: 0a:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation TU116 [GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER] (rev a1)

Auitable driver was found at nVidia
Version: 460.84
Release Date: 2021.6.3
Operating System: Linux 64-bit
Language: English (US)
File Size: 169.6 MB

So, I logged out of X and made the script executable, then ran it.

First it failed because it found another driver active, that is, nouveu. No problem. It asked me if I wanted to have it disabled. I did.

Next it started compiling the kernel modules for a while. Then it errored out again. Sad to say, I don't remember the message.

Is there an easy solution to this, or is it easier to just reinstall the OS?
