endless login loop in Linux Mint
by on2ret from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6HG5S)
From my NUC installation of Linux Mint, I was working via PUTTY on a RaspPi02W and did a ctl-alt-del thinking to reboot the RPi02W. Mint intercepted that and put me into a change-operator loop for an account I must have started when I installed Mint but have no idea what password I used and it won't allow me to change the user ID to the one I use. Nothing I have done allows me to exit this loop. I have killed Mint by removing power, but it always reloads to the loop and nothing else effects it.
How can I recover this? I have the original stick with Mint and can re-install it (my system will boot to a usb stick), but will lose all installed programs and upgrades (my data is on a separate drive). I expect I can access and alter some of the original Mint's configuration records, but which, where, do what?
Appreciate any help with this; I'm spinning my wheels.
