Sunday's wild-card game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills is being postponed until Monday at 4:30 p.m. ET, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced Saturday.

"The decision to move the game to Monday was made in consultation with New York governor Kathy Hochul in the best interest of public safety, and with the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the region prepares for the storm," the league announced in a statement.

A full travel ban is being issued in Erie County beginning at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Hochul added. The area expects to see 2-3 inches of snow per hour during the height of this weekend's winter storm.

New York's governor said the storm will be at its fiercest in south Buffalo on Sunday afternoon, per CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones. The wild-card matchup was slated to kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Concerns about the weather have been raised throughout the week with freezing temperatures and high winds projected for Sunday's forecast.

The last time a postseason matchup was moved due to inclement weather was in 2016 when a divisional playoff game between the Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs was moved from 1:05 p.m. ET to 8:20 p.m. ET due to an ice storm, according to ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg.

The Bills previously had a game against the Cleveland Browns moved from Buffalo to Ford Field in Detroit due to a snow and wind event in the city in November during their 2022 campaign.

The winner of Monday's contest between Pittsburgh and Buffalo is expected to play the following Sunday as opposed to Saturday, Jones reports.

The upcoming matchup will be the fourth playoff meeting between the two teams, although it's the first one set in Buffalo.
