Fleury passes Roy for 2nd on NHL wins list

Move over, Patrick Roy.

Minnesota Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury picked up career victory No. 552 on Monday against the New York Islanders, passing his childhood idol for sole possession of second place on the NHL's all-time wins list.

Fleury accomplished the feat in epic fashion, stopping all 21 shots he faced in the 5-0 victory to record his 74th career shutout - two back of Ed Belfour and Tony Esposito for a share of 10th on the all-time list.

Fleury called the accomplishment "a special moment" during his postgame interview.

When jokingly asked about going for Brodeur's all-time record, Fleury said he'd "need another 15 years," per The Athletic's Michael Russo.

Fleury is unquestionably destined for the Hall of Fame. He was drafted first overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2003 and made his NHL debut at 18 years old. Fleury spent the first 13 years of his career in The Steel City, winning three Stanley Cups (2009, 2016, 2017). He was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 expansion draft and brought them to the Stanley Cup Final in their inaugural campaign. He won his lone Vezina Trophy with Vegas in 2021.

He was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2021 offseason before being flipped to the Wild at the 2022 trade deadline.

The 39-year-old has yet to decide on his playing future beyond this season. He entered Monday with a career-worst .893 save percentage.
