Report: Saints working to hire 49ers' Kubiak as new OC
The New Orleans Saints are working to hire San Francisco 49ers passing game specialist Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Kubiak, son of Super Bowl-winning coach Gary Kubiak, can't be officially hired until after the 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11.
The 37-year-old has been in the NFL since 2013. He acted as the Minnesota Vikings' OC and play-caller in 2021 after two years as quarterbacks coach. The Vikings ranked 13th in scoring offense and 10th in total yards during his lone season at the helm.
Kubiak has also had two stints with the Denver Broncos and two spells in college with Texas A&M and Kansas.
The Saints reportedly were also interested in other names, including former Philadelphia Eagles OC Brian Johnson and Shane Waldron, the latter of whom opted to take the Chicago Bears' OC job.
Kubiak will take over for longtime OC Pete Carmichael, whom the Saints fired in January after 15 seasons in charge of the offense.
