Report: Chiefs' Reid expected to become top-paid NFL coach

The Kansas City Chiefs and Andy Reid are set to begin negotiations in the coming weeks for a deal that's expected to make him the NFL's highest-paid coach, sources told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

General manager Brett Veach is reportedly also in line for a new deal after the Chiefs won their second straight Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers. Both new contracts could be done by the Annual League Meeting, which takes place March 24-27, adds Pelissero.

It was previously reported that Reid, who's led Kansas City to three Super Bowl wins in the last five years, was in line for an extension regardless of the result against San Francisco.

While coach contracts aren't as widely reported as player deals, around six coaches are believed to earn more than $15 million per season, adds Pelissero.

The 65-year-old is reportedly believed to rank eighth among NFL coaches in terms of average salary and third in the AFC West behind Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh.

Reid became the NFL's oldest active coach after Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll left their respective positions with the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.

Both Reid and Veach signed new deals following the Chiefs' Super Bowl win during the 2019 season.
