Port forwarding for a web server on a home desktop computer
by grizdog from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6JXG5)
Hello,
I have what seems like a pretty standard, or at least vanilla, home setup. A cable modem connects to an Asus RT AC68-U, that has a wired connection to my desktop computer (Pop-OS 22.04) and serves everything else via WIFI. I have firewalls enabled on both the router and the desktop computer.
I have served a very small website from my desktop machine for decades. The configuration has changed many times, and I feel like I have the desktop firewall configured correctly, although I welcome any comments - I did run sudo ufw allow 'Apache'
I am unsure about the router, however. I figure I need to do port forwarding to make a hole to serve http, but I don't know how to do it, and the manual for the router is not helpful. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks.
