The Dallas Cowboys have given wide receiver Michael Gallup permission to seek a trade, a source told the Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins.

If they don't trade him first, the Cowboys could release Gallup ahead of March 17, when $4 million of his $8.5-million salary becomes guaranteed.

Gallup is set to account for a $13.8-million cap hit next season. Dallas would save $9.5 million against the cap if it designated him as a post-June 1 cut, per Over the Cap.

The 2018 third-round pick appeared poised for a larger role in the Cowboys' offense after hauling in 66 catches for 1,107 yards in 2019. Yet, after posting 59 receptions for 843 yards in 2020, Gallup hasn't surpassed 40 receptions or 500 yards in any of the past three seasons.

Brandin Cooks appeared to jump Gallup on the depth chart last season. Gallup finished fifth on the team with 34 receptions and a career-low 418 yards in 2023.

Dallas is reportedly attempting to free up cap space ahead of free agency on March 13. The franchise is expected to negotiate extensions for stars Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb in the near future.
