Report: Eagles signing Devin White to 1-year deal
The Philadelphia Eagles are signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White to a one-year deal worth up to $7.5 million, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.
White, 26, spent his first five NFL seasons with the Bucs. He had a promising start to his career by earning a second-team All-Pro berth and a Pro Bowl nod over his first three campaigns but has lacked consistency in recent years.
The LSU product, who was drafted fifth overall in 2019, recorded 83 tackles (five for loss), six pass breakups, 2.5 sacks, and two interceptions in 14 games in 2023. He's averaged 126 tackles, five pass breakups, and five sacks per 17 games played since entering the NFL.
The inside linebacker position is a big need for the Eagles this offseason. Philadelphia also recently signed former New Orleans Saints linebacker Zack Baun to add depth and competition to the second level of its defense.
Philly made a pair of splashes and addressed other needs on the first days of free agency by signing pass-rusher Bryce Huff and safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
Meanwhile, White is the first notable Buccaneers free agent not to return to the team this year. Tampa Bay was in danger of missing several starters this offseason but managed to re-sign quarterback Baker Mayfield, wide receiver Mike Evans, and linebacker Lavonte David. The team also placed the franchise tag on safety Antoine Winfield Jr.
