The Los Angeles Rams have agreed to terms with veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on a one-year contract, Mike Garafolo and Peter Schrager of NFL Network report.

The NFL recently suspended Garoppolo two games for violating the league's PED policy. The 32-year-old spent the 2023 campaign with the Las Vegas Raiders but was recently released after just one year with the team.

Las Vegas signed Garoppolo to a three-year contract in 2023, giving him an opportunity to work with then-head coach Josh McDaniels again. However, the Raiders struggled for most of last year and fired McDaniels midway through the campaign. Garoppolo began as QB1 but lost the starting role in the season's second half. He finished the campaign with only seven touchdowns against nine interceptions in seven appearances (six starts).

Garoppolo now returns to the NFC West after starting 55 games for the San Francisco 49ers from 2017-22. He was originally drafted by the New England Patriots in the second round in 2014 and traded to San Francisco during the 2017 season.

In Los Angeles, Garoppolo will presumably back up Matthew Stafford. The Rams' quarterback depth chart also features Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn.

Garoppolo is 43-20 as a starter throughout his career and has passed for 94 touchdowns to 51 interceptions.

Stafford had a solid 2023, but staying healthy has been an issue for the veteran signal-caller. Since playing all 17 games in his first year with L.A. in 2021, the 36-year-old has missed nine games due to injury, including one in 2023. The Rams also rested him in Week 18 last season.
