Another question about dev tools...

Hey gang,

This is probably another of my questions that gets the 'it's not wise' or 'no, you can't without borking the whole system' answers, but I won't know unless I ask.

The lates pan newsreader is out, v0.157 and I've been using pan since I discovered newsreaders can be in gui, heh.

Thing is, the version I'm currently using is 0.149...a few years old. There seems to be a few good 'upgrades' done to it since then, and some nice bug fixes.

Here's where I run into troubles...

pan now says the autotools is deprecated and now prefers to be 'made' with cmake.

The cmake that comes stock on Slackware 15.0 x64 is version 3.21.4 and pan wants 3.25 or higher, if one uses the autotools (autoconf particularly), Slackware's version is 2.69 and pan wants 2.71 or better.

So, my question is, can I 'upgrade' both of those or either just one or the other and not screw up my system? Thanks for any info on this.

Oh...and completely off-topic...umbilical hernia surgery *HURTS*!!! It's been 6 days now since the surgery and my stomach *still* hurts like hell! Compare that to when I got t-boned a year and a half ago while I was on my Harley. Compound fracture of both bones in the left calf, every rib on the left side broken, punctured lung, and 8 stitches in the left elbow, and now I have a metal plate on either side of the ankle and a metal rod inside the large bone from knee to ankle, lots of screws, and I'll tell you what, that surgery didn't hurt nearly as bad as this hernia surgery! If you *do* have a hernia...get it fixed yesterday, or you'll regret it! Just thought I'd mention that for fun info, heh heh.
