Former 1st-rounder Becton to sign 1-year deal with Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles plan to sign former New York Jets first-round offensive tackle Mekhi Becton to a one-year deal worth up to $5.5 million pending a physical, Becton's agents told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Becton was the No. 11 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft but failed to live up to the expectations around that draft position with the Jets, largely due to injuries. He played just one contest in 2021 and missed the entire 2022 campaign after appearing in 14 games as a rookie.
The 25-year-old suited up for 16 of New York's contests last season, playing 95% of the team's snaps in those games. However, he struggled to provide above-average play. Becton was flagged 18 times and allowed 12 sacks and eight quarterback hits en route to a 53.2 overall grade, per PFF.
Becton is expected to operate as the Eagles' swing tackle behind Jordan Mailata and Pro Bowler Lane Johnson. Philadelphia also rosters offensive tackles Le'Raven Clark and Fred Johnson.
