Halp with steam on nVidia

Hey guys.

Got a new laptop and installed slackware --current (XFCE).
Installed Grub2, upgraded system and multilib.
Installed steam from alienbob (was a bit surprised it was not found in the basic full install).
Installed nVidia drivers from Ponce's repository and they do work nicely. (glxgears, only using the nvidia)

Now can't start steam, getting

I do not want to install flatpack.
I want to know what is wrong, because this issue could cause problems elsewhere too.

I do have a perfectly working slackware with steam on my AMD/AMD box, so I know this SHOULD work just fine.

Thanks for your time!
