how do you tell a distro where to find /home partition?

It's been a long time since I had to do this and I don't remember how. Seems like I saw instructions once, long ago. Well, my usual distro has a very obvious way to designate /home in the installer and I've done it too many times to forget; but I was trying out a distro that uses Calamares, and I frequently forget to tell Calamares where the home partition is, because it's less obvious how to. (Partly for that reason, I groan when I see a Debian-based distro using Calamares. Most Debian-based distro designers seemingly haven't realized that the MX-type installer is quicker and easier.)

Anyway, now that the new distro is installed, what file do I need to edit to tell the distro where /home should be? All the sources I can find explain how to create partitions, which is not what I'm looking for. Or how to specify a different directory. I need to specify the partition, not a directory.
