why did it make no difference when I entered this command with a typo?

I was running gparted in a terminal. Because my fingers are clumsy and poorly coordinated, I made a typo, and accidentally entered
Code:sudo gparte\dTo my surprise, I did not get the expected error message. Gparted ran normally as though I had not hit the slash key. So Linux could figure out that I meant gparted?
Just an odd curiosity.
