Replacing hard disk without issues
by frustrao from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6NC3R)
I have just purchased a new and bigger HD for my laptop and I would like to transfer all the data to the new one. Namely, I want to keep the same partitions structure and data inside of them, but taking advantage of the new device's size to enlarge them.
The thing is that I haven't done such a thing for ages, and things have changed a lot. So, I fear that creating the same partitions and raw-copying the data from the old HD using dd or cp, leaving enough free space to grow them can create some issue either with windows boot or with UEFI. When it comes to Linux properly said I think there should be no problems.
My laptop boots using GRUB.
Which would be the best and safest way of doing this? Is it advisable to use specialized distros such as clonezilla, gparted and so on?
Thanks.
