Will I have problems with SATA /dev/sdx correlation on new motherboard
by mfoley from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6NSFZ)
I am switching motherboards on a server. The server has a RAID-5 (sda, sdb, sdc) and a RAID-1 boot (sdd, sde), and a non-raid drive, sdf.
The current/old motherboard has SATA connectors on three separate locations, each with 2 SATA connectors and each pair is labeled 1 and 2.
The new motherboard has 6 SATA connectors all grouped together labeled 1 through 6.
I have no idea if there is an issue plugging these drives into the new MB connectors and if they have to be plugged into specific connectors to get the correct sdX recognition. I've started by plugging sda into connector 1, sdb into connector 2, etc.
Could this mix up which drive is recognized as sda versus sdb, and so on?
Before I fire this up, I'd like some insight from LQ gurus on whether I've hosed myself.
Thanks --Mark
