Faulty memory or faulty slot?
by mrandredparis from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6PAJD)
Hey Everyone
Hopefully you can help out or point me in the right direction. Yesterday I tried upgrading my RAM on my dell latitude 7400 i7. I purchased it from Amazon
Upgrade
Timetec 16GB DDR4 2400MHz PC4-19200 Non-ECC Unbuffered 1.2V CL17 2Rx8 Dual Rank 260 Pin SODIMM Laptop Notebook PC Computer Memory RAM Module Upgrade
Original Memory
Hynix 16GB 2Rx8 PC4 - 2666 - SE1 - 11
One thing I noticed was the original RAM was in slot B not in slot A
I installed it and rebooted, click continue from the BIOS and it booted into Manjaro KDE without any problems the first time but the second time the SSD wouldn't boot and it dropped me into an emergency shell, I fixed it by switching to AHCI, somehow it had been switched. Then I ran pre boot diagnostics and it said there was an error. So I removed the memory and there was no error after the diag was run again. Attached are the dmesgs, if you see anything or can suggest anything I'm open.
I tried the original memory in the slot A and I got an error message when I ran the dell diagnostics again. But it still booted into the system.
I also couldn't find any memory error messages in the dmesg log's but perhaps I am missing something
