[SOLVED] printer set up

This has probably been answered umpteen times before so my apologies for that. I'm new to linux and I'm trying to set up my printer. My desktop can "see" the printer (it's a canon pixma mg4250) but demands a driver before it will work. I've been into the "add printer" menu which has loads of canon printers listed but not mine. I've been to https://openprinting.github.io/ which lists my printer as being driverless! I've been to the canon website and they list various linux drivers. I've downloaded them all but I cannot open them or get them to run. Any help would be appreciated.
