Running VLC from HDMI console
by asarangan from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6PK80)
I've been trying to get VLC to run on my Raspberry pi 3B, which I freshly installed with aarch64-current, but when I invoke it from the command line, it shows the video in ugly ascii art form. I compiled the binary from source (version 3.0.21) using the build script from slackbuilds.org, with x264 and x265 libraries. Compilation and installation went fine.
I am not sure if the following is related to this issue or not, but I am also unable to start the xfce manager. I am using runlevel 4. The boot process says "starting X11", but I see nothing other than the text console prompt.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
