Need help to resurrect a long-forgotten Acer Aspire 1 (Linpus) netbook

Hi all

While doing an attic clearout, I came upon an old Acer Aspire One notebook (Product Name AOA110) that I would like to resurrect. It seems to be fully functional, and boots to the login screen okay. However, I had bought the machine new some 20 years ago, and now have no idea what was set as the original user name or password! When I start up the machine, it presents me with a login window and the options of either logging in as "Acer" or as "Other", but all my guesses as to what the passwords should be are failing.

I went into the Bios (f2 at boot-up), set new Supervisor and User passwords. The Supervisor password saved, and I am asked for this when I now enter Bios setup, but the User password is still showing as Clear. And I cannot find anywhere to either set a new user or find out what the original user name was.

Can anyone suggest how I can restore the machine to functionality again? If it helps any
(a) I do have the original Acer-supplied software disk (Linux 1.0.9); and
(b) My normal desk-top computer runs Linux Mint, and I know my way round the graphic interface but wouldn't be too comfortable in command-line mode.

Many thanks!
