I'm on old guy who saw computers starting with IBM PC my wife brought home.
I'm more comfortable turning wrenches on cars, airplanes, motorcycles and nuclear submarines (yes).
I worked for a big computer company before Windows so did interoffice memos with home-grown word programs, then the VI text editor on unix computers, then management swallowed the Windows coolaid. What was a 4 line memo printed from unix became 8 pages of control characters sent by Windows when printed from the unix system.
My first post is about an issue I'm having with a free computer a friend gave me.
I've been on Windows 7 and am still on it with multiple backups in discs and hardware so I can stay on it as long as possible.
I don't easily give up my apps and years worth of data to "upgrade" easily.
Been there, done that, hated it.
I'm skeptical of Linux. And I'm resisting Bill Gates with all my might.
