Slackware64-current and vmware-player

After nearly a year, I ran slackpkg upgrade. The new kernel is 6.10.5 (old one was 6.1.60). I also upgraded VMware Player to 17.5.2 (old one was 17.0.0). When staring VM, I am getting "The processor does not support XSAVE. This virtual machine cannot be powered on." I am not sure how to get past this error. I could go back to the old kernel and the old VMware player. But that is many versions back, and I am concerned other things may stop working if I go back that far. Is there a fix for this? Searching online, there are some suggestions to run "bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off" on a windows host, but this is a Slackware Linux host. Can the kernel be recompiled with options to bypass this XSAVE?
