virt-manager and persistent USB connection issue
by asarangan from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6Q53R)
I am new to virt-manager. Recently, I installed libvirt, qemu, and virt-manager and have it up and running successfully with a Windows client. Everything works fine except an important issue with the USB. I have USBredir installed, and USB-Redirector added as a new hardware in virt-manager. Right now, when I connect a USB device (flash drive or printer), the devices don't automatically show up on the client side. I thought this is what the USB redirector was supposed to do. Anyhow, I am able to connect the device by manually adding it in virt-manager via Add Hardware->USB Host Device and then selecting the device from the list. I am ok with this approach, but the problem occurs if I unplug the USB device and replug it. The device doesn't re-connect despite virt-manager still showing the same USB Host Device on its hardware list. The only way I've been able to reconnect the device is by removing the old device from the hardware list, and adding it again. This is rather cumbersome, and I am hoping there is an easier way to keep previously connected USB devices maintain a persistent status. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
