recovering deleted data from LVM/RAID

I have an LVM system running on Linux RAID 1 using mdadm. I neglected to backup my system for too long and realized this after using syncthing to sync over files from this system to a new system. Before I realized that I should have changed the syncthing configuration to send only from this LVM/RAID system and/or receive only on the new system the damage was already done and files were getting removed. I tried using photorec, but the data found all had generic filenames. I also tried ufs explorer, which also yielded a bunch of generic filenames. Because this was my main documents folder, it contained a large amount of folders and files. Am I screwed at this point or am I using photorec and ufs explorer incorrectly?
