Discord of Blockchain Platform Avalanche and ZKsync Compromised
- Less than 48 hours after the discord servers of blockchain platform Polygon were compromised, two other platforms, Avalanche and ZKsync, met a similar fate.
- Hackers took over their servers and flooded their discord channels with malicious links.
- Avalanche addressed the issue on its X account and quickly resolved it. ZKsync has yet to officially address it.
Less than 48 hours after blockchain platform Polygon's Discord was compromised, layer-1 network Avalanche and layer-2 blockchain ZKsync's official Discord servers were also compromised by hackers.
The hacking of blockchain platform Avalanche's servers was confirmed on August 25 after the platform took to its X account to warn users about not engaging with any message or link shared over its discord server.
Some members of Avalanche's discord family also shared images on X showing that the hackers set up many fake distribution" schemes that would trick them into thinking that they could get free Avalanche (AVAX) tokens.
The latest update came through Ben Well, the community leads for Avalanche, who sent out an email an hour after the attack to say that the servers are back up and running.
About the ZKsync's AttackJust an hour after Avalanche's servers were compromised, the official ZkSync Discord was also hit.Once again, hackers shared links to the round 2 airdrop scam which tricks users into thinking they are getting free ZK tokens.
Unlike Avalanche, ZKsync is yet to address the issue on X but a number of team members have brought attention to the breach on Discord itself.
About the Polygon Discord AttackPolygon's Discord was attacked in a similar fashion just 48 hours ago. The breach was confirmed by Mudit Gupta, Polygon's chief information security officer, and users were asked to refrain from clicking on any links until the problem was resolved.
The attack was rather severe considering users faced financial fraud. For instance, one user called ValidatorK reportedly lost $150,000 worth of Ethereum from his pool after a simple interaction with Polygon's official Discord account.Others who were trying to reach the platform's customer support over Discord were also met by scammers posing as legitimate support agents.
Thankfully, a while later, the security team led by Gupta confirmed that the attack had been resolved.
