Dune 2 is a Warner Bros. film, and like others from this network, it will be available exclusively on HBO Max. This is bad news for some viewers since Max isn't available in every country.

Luckily, you can use a virtual private network (VPN) to change your location to the US or anywhere else - making the whole gamut of movie streaming apps available at your fingertips. To help you decide where to watch Dune 2, we've tested the best apps streaming the movie right now:

      Watch Dune on HBO Max

The 2020-launched streaming app is home to a wide range of films and TV shows, including the latest hits like Barbie, Godzilla x Kong, House of the Dragon Season 2, Succession, and, of course, both parts of Dune.

The only catch is its limited availability, as the app is restricted to the US and select regions in Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. This isn't a deal-breaker since you can always use a VPN; we'd recommend Surfshark, as it has plenty of US servers and offers good streaming speeds.

unnamed-62-2.pngHBO Max is the official platform for streaming Dune

HBO Max is our top choice for streaming Dune because it has all the previous Dune movies, should you want to catch up on Paul Atreides' saga so far. This includes both Villeneuve's Dune 1 (2021) and the 1984 Dune, directed by David Lynch.

The streaming app uses an elegant blue-and-white interface with large thumbnails that don't overcrowd the page. It has apps for Android, iOS, and smart TVs, so you can watch Dune on any device. It also lets you download up to 30 movies for offline viewing.

In a recent announcement, Warner Bros revealed a new Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle that costs $16.99/month with ads and $29.99/month ad-free - which might be worth checking out.

Bear in mind that Max's entry-level plan has ads, and you can expect anywhere between 8 and 12 minutes of ad time when streaming Dune 2. Upgrade to the $15.99/month plan for an ad-free experience.

      Watch Dune on Hulu

Dune 2 recently arrived on Hulu, which is good news for those wondering where to watch Dune for free. The platform offers a 30-day free trial, which is more than enough to enjoy Dune: Part Two's 2-hour 46-minute runtime.

If you aren't happy with Hulu or don't want to add another app to your streaming bills, you can simply cancel the subscription after watching Dune 2 for free.

However, we don't think that'll be the case, given Hulu's impressive collection of streaming content. From Shogun to The Bear and also the new Barbie movie, Hulu has plenty of award-winning shows and movies to keep you occupied. Hulu's sleek user interface also adds to your viewing pleasure.

      unnamed-63-2.pngHulu currently has Dune 2

Another reason to subscribe to Hulu is because of its live TV channels. Cinephiles will appreciate having access to CINEMAX, Lifetime Movies, and more from the same platform where they stream the Dune movie.

Like HBO Max, Hulu is also available in limited regions (only the US), so you'll need to use a VPN if you're abroad or traveling. Also, the entry-level plan has ads, and you'll have to upgrade to the $17.99/month tier to enjoy Dune 2 without any interruptions.

      Watch Dune on Jio Cinema

Indian streaming app Jio Cinema offers one of themost competitively priced options to watch the new Dune movie. While it isn't entirely free, $0.71/month for ad-free content streaming is a pretty good deal.

Also, the Jio Cinema app offers 4K resolution no matter which plan you choose. We can confidently say that Dune 2's breathtaking sequences featuring the iconic desert worm and steampunk machinery are best enjoyed in high-definition.

unnamed-64-2.pngJio Cinema is an affordable option for streaming Dune 2

Note that Jio Cinema is available only in India, and you'll need a VPN to change your location. Importantly, the country's internet laws regulate VPN usage, so you must use a VPN with Indian servers.

Luckily, Surfshark has virtual servers in India and physical infrastructure in the Netherlands, Singapore, and London, making it possible to watch Dune on Jio Cinema without any trouble.

While we enjoyed Jio Cinema's snappy (if unimaginative) user experience, we noticed that 2021's Dune 1 isn't on the platform, possibly because Netflix holds the rights to stream Dune 1 in India.

However, Jio has already announced that the upcoming Dune: Prophecy" series will definitely be coming to the platform, making it a good investment for long-time (or new!) fans of Herbert's interstellar epic.

Dune Part Two - Everything We Know So Far (No Spoilers)

Before you can even ask where to watch Dune 2," you must know what makes this movie a must-stream blockbuster in 2024. In a nutshell, Frank Herbert's 1965 novel is globally recognized as being one of the best sci-fi works of the 20th century; it also won the prestigious Hugo Award in 1966.

Despite many adaptations over the years, no one has come quite as close to achieving what Denis Villeneuve has in his ongoing series of films. The music by Hans Zimmer - whose oeuvre includes Gladiator, Inception, Interstellar, and Dunkirk - is another undeniable reason to watch Dune.

Dune Part Two PlotThe franchise deals with the Intergalactic politics of an unspecified dystopian future set in the desert landscape of Arrakis.

The first part describes how Duke Leto Atreides (played by Oscar Isaac) arrives at Arrakis to reinforce his fiefdom, helped by his concubine Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), and son, Paul (Timothee Chalamet).

Leto dies midway through the movie, with Paul and his mother escaping, eventually becoming comrades with Arrakis' native community, the Fremen. Within this community, Chani (Zendaya) emerges as Paul's love interest and fellow soldier-at-arms.

Throughout the movie, a community of witches called Bene Gesserit, from which Jessica hails, is constantly at odds with the society's politics and interpersonal feuds. They play a role in Paul's visions and prophecies, where he could one day emerge as the messiah.

This is where Dune 1 ends and the second installment picks up right where the first movie leaves off. It follows Paul as he unites with the Fremen to wage war against their feudal masters. The plotline and visuals will remind you of shows like Game of Thrones, and the scale is equally epic, as evident in the trailer:

Without giving any spoilers, we can tell you that Paul and Chani fall in love, the Bene Gesserit continues to play puppet masters, and Austin Butler's Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen is a worthy antagonist indeed. The film explores the role of religion in politics and how belief, often more than fact, can shape a society's future.

Will There Be a Dune 3?

There will definitely be a Dune 3 movie, and Villeneuve told The New York Times in April 2024 that he's in the process of writing it. While there's no confirmation yet, the third movie is expected to be released in December 2026.

In the meantime, if you can't get enough of the Dune universe, there's good news - the upcoming TV series, Dune: Prophecy, is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max in November 2024. Creator Diane Ademu-John, who you might know from The Haunting of Bly Manor," and a whole new cast are behind this prequel to Dune 1.

If you can't access HBO Max, you can use a VPN to catch the new series from anywhere in the world, which focuses on the rise of the Bene Gesserit from anywhere in the world.

Dune: Part Two - Cast, Awards, Controversy, and More

As you gear up to stream the Dune movie, here are all the details about Villeneuve's 2024 release.

      Dune: Part Two Cast

The new film features both recurring characters from the 2021 Dune and new faces-notably Austin Butler, star of last year's breakthrough hit Elvis," and Florence Pugh, known for her standout performances in Black Widow" and Oppenheimer."

Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, and Dave Bautista reprise their roles. As the Emperor" heading the feudal families, Christopher Walken, also holds his own on screen.

Dune: Part Two Awards and Reviews

While Dune 2's March release makes it a little early for this year's awards season, it's already picked up several accolades, including Best Picture at the Astra Midseason Movie Awards and Quality Foreign Language Film of the Year at China's Weibo Awards.

We should also mention that Hanz Zimmer, who composed the film's score, is named among the top 100 Living Geniuses today and has won several awards.

And, if you're still on the fence about watching Dune: Part Two, note that it's rated 92% on Rotten Tomatoes with a whopping 95% audience score.

Dune: Part Two ControversyWhile we wouldn't call Dune 2 a controversial film, it touches on sensitive topics such as colonialism and religious fanaticism.

Some audiences have criticized the film for not handling the colonist subject matter sufficiently deftly, and others note that despite Middle Eastern culture inspiring the idea of the Fremen, very few actors from the MENA actually appear in the movie.

Dune: Part Two Extras and Exclusives

As with any movie universe that operates on an epic scale - think Harry Potter or Game of Thrones - there are many opportunities for world-building. Capitalizing on this, HBO has released several extras and exclusives that build out the world of Dune.

This includes behind-the-scenes walkthroughs by production designers, training for action sequences, costume tours, and breakdowns of Dune's unique steampunk machinery. Our favorite was the in-depth look at the worm-riding sequence, part of which you can view below.

These exclusives are available if you buy Dune: Part 2 on Blu-Ray. All 16 extra video clips are also streaming on HBO Max, which is the official platform for watching the Dune movies.

Is it Worth Buying Dune: Part Two?It's worth buying Dune: Part Two if you are a devoted science fiction fan and want to add Dune to your collection. For the rest of us, streaming offers a more cost-effective solution, given the high quality of streaming apps and the ease of access via a VPN.

Interestingly, although HBO Max isn't available in many parts of the world, it's possible to buy Dune: Part Two almost anywhere, thanks to marketplaces with wide international reach like Microsoft, YouTube, and Amazon.

Microsoft offers the complete Dune bundle for $27.99, which includes both movies in Ultra HD. After you buy Dune, you can watch the movie not only on your PC or smartphone but also on your Xbox and in Hololens mixed reality.

Dune: Part Two is available on Amazon for $29.96 for the 4K version. Collectors will be particularly interested in the limited edition SteelBook version, which will perfectly preserve your purchase.

YouTube is another alternative where you can either rent or buy Dune: Part Two. In India, it costs just $8.60 to buy a movie in Ultra HD, and if you're abroad, you can always use a VPN with Indian servers.

unnamed-65-2.pngDune 2 is available for purchase on YouTube worldwide

As you can see, purchase options are significantly more expensive than any app where Dune is streaming, and it's more cost-effective to simply sign up for a monthly plan on HBO Max, Hulu, Jio Cinema, or Crave, which also gives you access to other movies and shows with the same vibe.

That said, the nearly three-hour-long movie does merit more than one rewatch, and if you're a Frank Herbert fan, purchasing a high-definition edition remains a viable choice.

How to Watch Dune From Anywhere

Given the movies' inconsistent global availability, you might be wondering how to watch Dune from anywhere.

Dune's plotline is intricate and many-layered, involving a massive cast of characters and their actions over several years. So, you'll need to watch every movie to enjoy and appreciate the full story.

If HBO Max isn't available in your region, here's how you can still watch Dune:

      • Torrent Dune securely using a VPN: Websites like BitTorrent enable fast P2P downloads but be mindful of local laws when torrenting Dune. Also, P2P websites can cause virus attacks, so use a good torrenting VPN that will protect your identity online and block adware and scam sites.
      • Use a VPN to switch to a location where Dune is streaming: A VPN will allow you to access HBO Max from outside the US. And, if a streaming provider (e.g., Netflix) blocks specific titles in your country, then you can change your country using the VPN app.
      • Rent Dune from an online marketplace: Dune is on nearly every platform where you can rent movies, like Vudu (US) and BookMyShow Stream(India). It'll cost between $2 and $20; you can change your location to somewhere Dune is available for cheap using a VPN.
unnamed-66-2.pngDune 2 is available to rent in India for around $1.79Where to Watch Dune: Part One

Dune: Part One was released in September 2021, and because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was released in theaters and on streaming platforms simultaneously. It won several awards, including the Oscars for Best Original Score, Sound, Film Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, and Visual Effects.

If you're yet to watch the movie and want to catch up on how the story of Arrakis began, here's where you can stream Dune: Part One.

      Streaming ServiceStarting Price
      1f1ec.png1f1e7-1f1ee.png1f1f3.png Netflix$6.99/month
      1f1fa-1f1f8.png HBO Max$9.99/month
      1f1e8-1f1e6.png Crave$9.99/month
      1f1fa-1f1f8.png DirecTV$98.99/month

Importantly, you won't find Dune 1 on every platform that has Dune 2 - for example, Hulu currently has the second chapter of the story but not the first.

Therefore, a good option is to sign up for HBO Max, which has both, since the films' distributor, Warner Bros., is owned by the same company as HBO. Max also has the 1984 Dune, which approaches the same story from a different perspective.

If you are a Netflix subscriber, a VPN can help you watch Dune without having to sign up for another streaming service.

Netflix US doesn't have Dune: Part One, so use a VPN to switch to a location where Netflix is showing the movie - such as the UK or India. This will allow you to watch Dune 1 at no extra cost.

#ProTip: US Amazon Prime Video subscribers can change their VPN server to the UK to stream the 2000 sci-fi mini-series called Frank Herbert's Dune.

The Best VPNs for Watching Dune

A VPN can be a valuable tool when you're watching movies and shows online, unlocking the full potential of streaming services no matter where you are. To help you choose, we've tested, reviewed, and compared the best VPNs in 2024 - here are the highlights:

When selecting your streaming VPN, consider key factors like server locations, speed, and the availability of smart TV apps. Ideally, choose a reputed, paid vendor rather than a free VPN since free VPNs have limited features (e.g., not enough server locations) and aren't always trustworthy.

      Editor's Choice

Surfshark is one of the best VPNs for watching long, visually rich movies like Dune because it provides excellent speeds - between 130 and 250 Mbps - more than enough for 4K HD streaming.

Since HBO Max offers Dune 2 with Dolby Atmos, Surfshark's lag-free performance really lets you appreciate the film's sound design. This is due to its specially designed servers with 10 Gbps ports.

If you're not happy with the platform, it offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. This also helps those who want to watch Dune for free-you can always stream the movie using Surfshark VPN during the money-back period and cancel afterward, although that's unlikely to happen since it offers great value.

Surfshark is among the few VPNs to support unlimited simultaneous connections. That means you need just one account for all your devices and freely watch Dune from anywhere.

      Final Thoughts

Dune Parts 1 and 2 are both critically acclaimed, award-winning films that you should definitely watch in 2024. Thanks to streaming apps and VPN technology, you can now enjoy Dune at home.

While the Denis Villeneuve epic is probably best enjoyed in a big-screen IMAX theater, the streaming experience is no less compelling. Platforms like HBO Max offer 4K resolution and Dolby Atmos surround sound, which does justice to the film's stunning visuals and special effects.

Dune 2 features superb acting from Chalamet and Zendaya and leaves you deeply immersed in Frank Herbert's visionary universe, eagerly awaiting Dune 3.

If HBO Max isn't available in your region or you'd rather avoid signing up for another streaming service, use a VPN for cheap renting and streaming options or to safely torrent Dune: Part Two.
