How do I run a javascript file?

I try to load it in firefox, which displays it as though it is a text file. I have nodejs, but node doesn't work the way the pages I find on the web say it should. Usually it displays the text of the file, then reports an error, then exits. I'm trying to parse bluetooth ids with bluetooth-numbers-database, which I downloaded from github.
