multiple computers/users vs. Bluetooth on (Xubuntu) Linux
by Skaperen from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6QPP4)
suppose you have a set of Bluetooth headphones and 3 computers all running the same setup of Linux. i'll call them hostA, hostB, and hostC. how do you go about selecting to listen to music playing on hostB ? i'm guessing you will be sure hostA and hostC are not running any Bluetooth processes.
now, suppose, two humans, which i'll call userA and userB are right next to each other (bumping shoulders) using separate computers which i will call pcA an pcB. userA is using pcA and userB is using pcB. each human has their own Bluetooth headphones of the exact same model. each of the computers they are using is set up and configured the same way. how should these humans, or the one system administrator (who is the only one with sudo powers), be sure each human hears only the music they are playing? consider that userA turns their headphones on, first, a few minutes before userB does so.
now, suppose you have lightDM running on your computer to manage the display and you switch users often enough to have 4 userids (idA, idB, idC, and idD) running on your computer. you switch on your Bluetooth headphones and they do paring and connect? which userid can play music?
these questions are the kinds of things i am trying to find out to conveniently use my new (to me) Bluetooth headphone under Xubuntu 20.04 LTS. is there a specific cause to upgrade to Xubuntu 24.04 LTS for this. i am working on the planning for this upgrade but would like to listen to music as i do most of the planning, installing, and testing on this one and only laptop in front of me. i have no smartphone.
